Making the Most Difficult Decision in Your Relationship: Discover Discernment Counselling

Making the Most Difficult Decision in Your Relationship: Discover Discernment Counselling
What Makes Discernment Counselling Unique? A Different Approach to Relationship Therapy
Unlike traditional Couples Therapy, this approach is different. We don't immediately dive into conflict resolution. Instead, we create a safe space where you can explore your feelings, doubts, and hopes for the future. Think of it as having a personalized compass to navigate this period of uncertainty. Many couples considering divorce or separation find this preliminary step crucial before making life-changing decisions.
A Truly Equal Space for Each Partner
I know how difficult it can be to share your true feelings in front of your partner. That's why this format is unique: although you come to sessions together, each person gets individual time to express themselves freely. You'll be able to share your deepest concerns without fear of hurting the other person or triggering conflict. This therapeutic approach is especially beneficial for mixed-agenda couples, where one partner is leaning out while the other wants to preserve the relationship.
A Clear and Flexible Structure
If you're like most of my clients, you're probably wondering how long this will take.
Discernment Counselling is designed to be both effective and flexible:
- An in-depth first session of 2 hours to fully understand your situation
- Following sessions of 90 minutes
- A short program of 1 to 5 sessions maximum
- The freedom to decide after each session if you wish to continue
Unlike traditional marriage counselling, this short-term couples therapy approach focuses on decision-making rather than immediate relationship repair.
Professional relationship guidance helps you explore all options with clarity and confidence.
Three Possible Paths for Your Future

Through our work together, we'll explore three possible directions, each being perfectly valid:
- Maintaining the status quo: Sometimes it's not the right moment for big change. I can help you manage this waiting period constructively.
- Moving toward separation: If this is the direction you choose, I'll support you in making this transition as respectful and painless as possible.
- Committing to rebuilding: You might choose to give your relationship a real chance through six months of couples therapy, temporarily setting aside the idea of separation.
What You'll Gain
Beyond clarity on which direction to take, this process will bring you:
- Better understanding of yourself and your relationship patterns
- Tools for more effective communication
- Renewed confidence in your ability to make important decisions
- A clearer vision of what you really want in a relationship
Many couples report improved emotional awareness and better decision-making skills, whether they choose to work on their marriage or move toward separation.
Comprehensive Support for Your Journey
To enrich our work together, you'll have access to:
